What is tennis elbow?
Tennis elbow occurs when there is an inflammation in the tendons in the arm, which then causes inflammation where the tendons connect to the elbow bone and surrounding area. If you have tennis elbow, you may have pain on the inside of your forearm near the bend of your elbow, and you may find it difficult to extend or raise your arm, hindering your motion. If you have the symptoms of tennis elbow, your elbow may feel tender to the touch, your grip strength may become weaker, and pain may radiate along your forearm to your wrist.
You may have tennis elbow if you are struggling to grip items or write for long periods of time and are unable to twist jar lids and door handles, as well as if you feel pain when lifting certain heavy items or when bending your arm. Although the pain is increased when you move your elbow, you may still feel moderate pain when your elbow is at rest. This may last for between 6 months and 2 years.
How do you get tennis elbow?
You will normally get tennis elbow from repetitive actions or from straining the muscles and tendons in your arm that connect to your elbow, leaving them to become inflamed and tears can also occur. Although not only people that play tennis can get the condition, people are more prone to the condition if they regularly play sports or if they have strenuous jobs that include a lot of heavy lifting or repetition, such as construction jobs.
You may also get tennis elbow from jobs such as typing, decorating, gardening, or playing an instrument, much like repetitive stress injuries. You can also get the condition if you sustain a sudden injury or if you apply shock to your elbow, as this can cause strain and put force on the tendons in the elbow.
How Can a Chiropractor Help With Tennis Elbow?
Although doctors suggest a wide range of treatments to resolve the condition, such as taking anti-inflammatories and icing the area, there has been recent research to suggest that chiropractic care is a successful way to treat tennis elbow alongside these passive treatments.
During chiropractic treatment, your chiropractor may use a wide range of different techniques to ensure that your tennis elbow can be treated, especially alongside other therapies such as stretches and bracing. Chiropractors use hands-on methods to remove adhesions and instill adjustments to the elbow and neck, relieving the pressure on the nervous system and reducing the pain which you may be experiencing. Not only this, but this release of tension on the nervous system can boost the body’s natural ability to heal and to manage the pain that you may be experiencing due to tennis elbow, regardless of the cause of this. At SnapCrack, we use three common techniques called The Crack, The Drop and The Click to find the best treatment for your condition and according to your own preferences.
Using chiropractic techniques is a practical and active way to treat tennis elbow that does not rely on the condition getting better on its own, reducing the length of recovery time for patients. Chiropractic treatment for tennis elbow can also help to reduce swelling and inflammation and restore normal motion to the tendons in the elbow, allowing you to return to your usual activities and lifestyle in as little time as possible.
By discussing your condition with SnapCrack, we will be able to give you the professional advice that you need to rest your elbow and ensure that it recovers quickly.
